About chris

My name is Chris and I have a deep passion for cycling. Whether I’m riding with friends or going solo, cycling gives me an escape, makes me feel good, and keeps me fit. I love exploring new routes and challenging myself with different terrains. Living in Derbyshire means I have lots of options although i have to admit wind and rain means I spend much more time than I would like on my turbo trainer.

Besides cycling, I also enjoy running and swimming, and I occasionally participate in triathlons, which combine all three activities and push my limits.

My other passion is Sheffield Wednesday and my son and I love spending days in the steel city watching The Owls.

With a background in production management, I’ve honed my skills as a very good communicator and listener. I thrive on sharing my knowledge and talking about bikes, from the latest gear to maintenance tips. I generally enjoy engaging in conversations on a variety of topics, whether it’s about sports, technology, or just life in general. My wife would say I talk too much!

I live in the charming town of Belper with my wife, my 10-year-old son, and my 23-year-old stepson. Family time is important to me, and I love spending time with my kids, whether we’re out on a bike ride or just hanging out at home. I also enjoy running with my dog, which adds an extra layer of fun and companionship to my workouts. Recently, I’ve embraced the exciting new role of being a grandad, which has brought a whole new level of joy and fulfilment to my life.

FAQs

What is a mobile bike fit?

A professional mobile bike fit is a service where a trained expert comes to your location to adjust and tailor your bicycle to your specific body measurements and riding style. This ensures optimal comfort, efficiency, and performance.

Why should I get a bike fit?

Getting a bike fit can significantly improve your riding experience. It helps in reducing discomfort, preventing injuries and increasing efficiency and power output. Whether you’re a casual rider or a competitive cyclist, a proper bike fit is essential for enjoying your rides to the fullest.

How long does a bike fit take?

A typical bike fit takes approximately 2.5 – 3 hours, depending on your specific needs and the adjustments required. Our goal is to ensure your bike fits you perfectly, so we take the time needed to get every detail right.

What do need for the bike fit?

Your bike, cycling shoes and your usual cycling attire. It’s important to fit you in the gear you normally ride in to ensure the adjustments are tailored to your regular riding conditions. If you have booked to have additional bikes or shoes fitted at the same time, please have them available.

Can you fit all types of bikes?

Yes, we specialise in fitting all types of bikes, including road, gravel, triathlon, TT, track and static training bikes such as Watt bike. Each type of bike has unique fitting considerations, which we are fully equipped to handle.

How do I prepare for the bike fit?

Ensure your bike is clean and in good working condition. We cannot do a bike fit on a bike which is not in good working order. If you have any specific concerns or areas of discomfort while riding, be ready to discuss them during your appointment as twe will ask you all of this.

How much space do I need for the bike fit?

You’ll need enough space to set your bike up on a turbo trainer and we’ll also have an exercise mat for you to undergo your biomechanical assessments. This is a rough area of 2 to 3 meters squared.

If you could also make sure that any valuable or precious belongings are removed from the fitting space and please ensure that any pets (or small children) are also kept away from the fitting area.

Is a mobile bike fit as effective as a studio fit?

Absolutely! Our mobile bike fit service offers the same level of expertise and precision as a studio fit. The Bike Fitters are trained to a very high standard with continuous on going training especially around biomechanics and complex cases. The advantage is that we bring this service directly to you, providing convenience without compromising on quality.

id match laser guided cleat fit

Our idmatch Footmeter uses a laser to quickly and accurately measure your feet. This helps us record key measurements such as foot length, foot width and metotarsal length.

The idmatch Tiltmeter is a special tool we use to check how your foot sits when you’re actually pedaling. It helps us see if your foot leans inwards or outwards (pronation or supination), which is really important for a comfortable ride.

Finally, our idmatch Cleat Fit system makes sure the part of your shoe that clips onto the pedal (the cleat) is perfectly aligned. We use a laser and cleat stencil to get this just right, so your feet feel great and you pedal efficiently

  in the saddle with chris!

At The Bike Fitters, we believe getting to know your fitter is as important as the fit itself. That’s why we put Chris in the hot seat!

Here’s what he had to say when Bike Fitters HQ threw him some questions

What’s your favourite bike and why?

Favourite bike is my Specialized Crux. It gives me freedom to get off the orad and away from the traffic. Not to mention the 1:1 gear ratio for the hills!

Best ride you’ve ever been on?

Best ride would probably be Mallorca Andratx to Pollensa, some great climbs, especially the Puig Major.

If you could cycle anywhere in the world, where would it be?

If I could ride anywhere it would probably be the Furka Pass in Switzerland on the road. Off road I would love to do some gravel riding in the USA.

What cycling event do you never miss watching on TV?

I really like watching the spring classics, I think I can relate more to the one day racers rather than the skinny climbers!

What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you while on a bike?

Not long after starting riding we were climbing a local hill, the group suddenly stopped and I couldn’t unclip in time. I fell off but the bike was still attached to my feet. I was rolling around on my bike like an upside down turtle with the bike stuck to me!

Who’s your cycling hero and why?

Cycling hero is Mark Cavendish, I love his winning mentality, second place for him isn’t good enough and he wears his heart on sleeve.

What’s your pre-ride ritual?

Pre ride ritual usually revolves around me being late, rushing to eat breakfast, find all my kit (never happens), then remember I didn’t put air in my tyres, forget my drink and then still end up being late.

What’s the best piece of cycling advice you’ve ever received?

Good advice was to always buy good kit, buy cheap buy twice. Must admit I tried to save a few quid when I first started. Best thing I ever bought though were Rapha bibshorts. On a more general level though, simply enjoy riding!
