About chris
My love of the outdoors started at an early age. Whether childhood expeditions and leading groups with the venture scouts, to sailing on the local lake, I always loved being outside. As well as swimming competitively for the local club, I was always tearing around on my Rayleigh Chopper, then progressed to “borrowing” my father’s full steely Dawes, along with the full Dawes cycling kit. There was then a bit of a hiatus, until I rediscovered sport in around 2009. I have been involved in the Cambridge sporting scene for over fifteen years; cycling, open water swimming and running, often attached to three dogs in a canicross harness. I am a coach and trustee at Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club. With this it became important to understand how to improve athlete’s joy and performance, both through training and awareness of individual’s biomechanics.
I have competed at many triathlons, including the Bolton and Austrian Ironman and particularly enjoyed the Buttermere Triathlon, slogging up the Honister and Whinlatter Pass, followed by super quick and narrow descents – on open roads! I have also been fortunate enough to run a few marathons, including London three times and swim open water marathons too. However, being out on my bike on a fine day fills me with joy.
Before becoming a professional bike fitter, I mostly worked in the hospitality and leisure industry. This included a long restaurant career as well as running Wimpole Estate for the National Trust, welcoming hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Through my career it has and remains important to me for my customers, visitors or clients to have memorable experiences, where I can help them to enjoy their passion time after time. My enthusiasm and experience helps others succeed in their sporting dreams and I will work with you to ensure you get the best out of your bike fit

FAQs
What is a mobile bike fit?
A professional mobile bike fit is a service where a trained expert comes to your location to adjust and tailor your bicycle to your specific body measurements and riding style. This ensures optimal comfort, efficiency, and performance.
Why should I get a bike fit?
Getting a bike fit can significantly improve your riding experience. It helps in reducing discomfort, preventing injuries and increasing efficiency and power output. Whether you’re a casual rider or a competitive cyclist, a proper bike fit is essential for enjoying your rides to the fullest.
How long does a bike fit take?
A typical bike fit takes approximately 2.5 – 3 hours, depending on your specific needs and the adjustments required. Our goal is to ensure your bike fits you perfectly, so we take the time needed to get every detail right.
What do need for the bike fit?
Your bike, cycling shoes and your usual cycling attire. It’s important to fit you in the gear you normally ride in to ensure the adjustments are tailored to your regular riding conditions. If you have booked to have additional bikes or shoes fitted at the same time, please have them available.
Can you fit all types of bikes?
Yes, we specialise in fitting all types of bikes, including road, gravel, triathlon, TT, track and static training bikes such as Watt bike. Each type of bike has unique fitting considerations, which we are fully equipped to handle.
How do I prepare for the bike fit?
Ensure your bike is clean and in good working condition. We cannot do a bike fit on a bike which is not in good working order. If you have any specific concerns or areas of discomfort while riding, be ready to discuss them during your appointment as twe will ask you all of this.
How much space do I need for the bike fit?
You’ll need enough space to set your bike up on a turbo trainer and we’ll also have an exercise mat for you to undergo your biomechanical assessments. This is a rough area of 2 to 3 meters squared.
If you could also make sure that any valuable or precious belongings are removed from the fitting space and please ensure that any pets (or small children) are also kept away from the fitting area.
Is a mobile bike fit as effective as a studio fit?
Absolutely! Our mobile bike fit service offers the same level of expertise and precision as a studio fit. The Bike Fitters are trained to a very high standard with continuous on going training especially around biomechanics and complex cases. The advantage is that we bring this service directly to you, providing convenience without compromising on quality.

id match laser guided cleat fit
Our idmatch Footmeter uses a laser to quickly and accurately measure your feet. This helps us record key measurements such as foot length, foot width and metotarsal length.
The idmatch Tiltmeter is a special tool we use to check how your foot sits when you’re actually pedaling. It helps us see if your foot leans inwards or outwards (pronation or supination), which is really important for a comfortable ride.
Finally, our idmatch Cleat Fit system makes sure the part of your shoe that clips onto the pedal (the cleat) is perfectly aligned. We use a laser and cleat stencil to get this just right, so your feet feel great and you pedal efficiently

At The Bike Fitters, we believe getting to know your fitter is as important as the fit itself. That’s why we put Chris in the hot seat!
Here’s what he had to say when Bike Fitters HQ threw him some questions
What’s your favourite bike and why?
Planet X Pro Carbon. I rediscovered cycling in 2010 and after riding a Pinarello FP1, which I loved, I was blown away with the extra pace and handling I got from my first full carbon bike.
Best ride you’ve ever been on?
What cycling event do you never miss watching on TV?
I love the Giro, but has to be the Tour De France
What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you while on a bike?
Who’s your cycling hero and why?
What’s your pre-ride ritual?
Check the tyres are 90psi, chain set is immaculate and the quick releases are tight enough. If the wind is blowing, I try and adjust my route to finish with a tailwind. Ensure I am hydrated and have fuelled 30 minutes before. Normally eggs on toast if a morning ride.
What’s the best piece of cycling advice you’ve ever received?
