About greg
Hi, I’m Greg – a triathlete with a particular love for middle and full distance racing. Of the three disciplines, the bike is where I spend most of my time, and it’s become the part I’m most passionate about.
Coming from Bury but now based in Bolton I’m spoiled for choice when it comes to riding. Turn right or left from my front door and I’ve got Holme Moss, Sheephouse Lane, Jeffrey Hill, The Rake, Cragg Vale, and the Cat and Fiddle, all within reach. Though I use the word “spoiled” loosely when I’m tackling those climbs!
I’ve racked up plenty of triathlons over the years, including Iron Man UK. For me, the training is half the fun and preparing for these races has taken me on some brilliant adventures across the UK and further afield. To take on whatever the road throws at me, I’m lucky enough to be able to choose from a selection of bikes, whether that’s my trusty Ribble to take on the technical, my Northroad TT bike for more power over the flats or when the weather changes, my winter wheels. Because let’s be honest – the best bike is always the one that gets you out the door.
I love talking all things cycling, triathlon and fitness in general. We all need something that we’re passionate about and gives us a break from the everyday – for me, that’s getting on the bike

FAQs
What is a mobile bike fit?
A professional mobile bike fit is a service where a trained expert comes to your location to adjust and tailor your bicycle to your specific body measurements and riding style. This ensures optimal comfort, efficiency, and performance.
Why should I get a bike fit?
Getting a bike fit can significantly improve your riding experience. It helps in reducing discomfort, preventing injuries and increasing efficiency and power output. Whether you’re a casual rider or a competitive cyclist, a proper bike fit is essential for enjoying your rides to the fullest.
How long does a bike fit take?
A typical bike fit takes approximately 2.5 – 3 hours, depending on your specific needs and the adjustments required. Our goal is to ensure your bike fits you perfectly, so we take the time needed to get every detail right.
What do need for the bike fit?
Your bike, cycling shoes and your usual cycling attire. It’s important to fit you in the gear you normally ride in to ensure the adjustments are tailored to your regular riding conditions. If you have booked to have additional bikes or shoes fitted at the same time, please have them available.
Can you fit all types of bikes?
Yes, we specialise in fitting all types of bikes, including road, gravel, triathlon, TT, track and static training bikes such as Watt bike. Each type of bike has unique fitting considerations, which we are fully equipped to handle.
How do I prepare for the bike fit?
Ensure your bike is clean and in good working condition. We cannot do a bike fit on a bike which is not in good working order. If you have any specific concerns or areas of discomfort while riding, be ready to discuss them during your appointment as twe will ask you all of this.
How much space do I need for the bike fit?
You’ll need enough space to set your bike up on a turbo trainer and we’ll also have an exercise mat for you to undergo your biomechanical assessments. This is a rough area of 2 to 3 meters squared.
If you could also make sure that any valuable or precious belongings are removed from the fitting space and please ensure that any pets (or small children) are also kept away from the fitting area.
Is a mobile bike fit as effective as a studio fit?
Absolutely! Our mobile bike fit service offers the same level of expertise and precision as a studio fit. The Bike Fitters are trained to a very high standard with continuous on going training especially around biomechanics and complex cases. The advantage is that we bring this service directly to you, providing convenience without compromising on quality.

id match laser guided cleat fit
Our idmatch Footmeter uses a laser to quickly and accurately measure your feet. This helps us record key measurements such as foot length, foot width and metotarsal length.
The idmatch Tiltmeter is a special tool we use to check how your foot sits when you’re actually pedaling. It helps us see if your foot leans inwards or outwards (pronation or supination), which is really important for a comfortable ride.
Finally, our idmatch Cleat Fit system makes sure the part of your shoe that clips onto the pedal (the cleat) is perfectly aligned. We use a laser and cleat stencil to get this just right, so your feet feel great and you pedal efficiently

At The Bike Fitters, we believe getting to know your fitter is as important as the fit itself. That’s why we put Greg in the hot seat!
Here’s what he had to say when Bike Fitters HQ threw him some questions
What’s your favorite bike and why?
My favourite bike is my first carbon bike, a Ribble Sportive Racing; Shimano Ultegra groupset and I also upgraded to some Mavic carbon wheels on the bike to work scheme and that bike has seen me through more miles than I could possibly remember. Long winter rides and idyllic summer rides, my first 100 miler, countless sportives and races and she never let me down. Sadly, she now resides on my turbo as I got knocked off her by a car one Summer morning and the fork and toptube were damaged. I did replace the fork but I also got another bike after that due to confidence of using the damaged one out on the roads again. I’ve recently invested in a TT bike at the back end of 2023 and it is an absolute flying machine, it’s coming with me to Montenegro in May 24 to do a triathlon so cannot wait to see what it can do on some closed roads!
Best ride you’ve ever been on?
The best ride I’ve ever been on was when doing an Iron Man training camp in Estepona, Spain. We set off and cycled all the way from sea level to Ronda which is about a 50K climb with stead switchbacks all the way. We reached the top and had a paella refuel before a picture with the iconic Puente Nuevo bridge in the background and then cycling back down via an amazing village called Juzcar which is actually known as the blue village and is decorated with art depicting the Smurfs! The ride down was fast and technical, the sun on our backs, riding with my two best friends and made it back to town to watch the sunset with a beer. It doesn’t get any better than that!
If you could cycle anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Only one answer there – Alpe D’huez; it’s been on my bucket list for a long time and something I’d love to clock up on my Strava ha!
What cycling event do you never miss watching on TV?
I love Italy so I quite like watching the Giro but it’s got to be the Tour for me; the coverage is making it more accessible and the recent Netflix documentary I thought was excellent. I’d love to see how long it would be before I was spat out the back of the peloton, there are elite athletes, then there are pro riders!
What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you while on a bike?
We were riding in the Lakes last year when my friend came off his bike round a tight-ish corner; he banged his face and body up quite badly – stay with me, this does get funnier – we got him off the road and I went to a nearby guest house to get some first aid equipment and call an ambulance. After spending around 15 minutes or so sorting out the rescue, I walked back to him and my other friend with a blanket and a first aid kit ready to sit and wait for the ambulance to arrive, only to see him being bundled off in the back of a refrigerated food van. When I was busy raising the alarm, a kind Cumbrian delivery driver had told him that the ambulance would be ages, if at all, so convinced him he’d be better off being dropped at a local café for the ambulance to meet us there. Whilst the injuries weren’t funny, the sight of him being wheeled on a sack truck trolley into the back of the van was hilarious
Who’s your cycling hero and why?
I like Mark Cavendish; he’s got a strong competitive streak and is a little controversial. It’s obvious he is all in when it comes to cycling and his record speaks for itself with his TdF stage win count. Again, the recent Netflix documentary gave a real insight into his character which I liked. Some of the elite cyclists are like robots but Cav has a personality, might not be to everyone’s taste but he’s the one that stands out to me.
What’s in your repair kit that might surprise us?
Nothing that might really surprise you, but I always take a £10 in my phone case on the off chance that I need to get a taxi back which has happened a couple of times when unfixable mechanicals have gotten the best of me. Best thing about Uber is the notes function – send a car big enough to stick my bike in the back ha!
What’s your pre-ride ritual?
Peanut butter and banana bagel; might sound like Elvis’s diet but the legs always seem to thank me for shovelling it down my neck before I strap the bike shoes on.
What’s the best piece of cycling advice you’ve ever received?
One tip I found out recently is that you can control your Garmin head unit with your Shimano shifters by pressing the buttons on the top of the hoods – I didn’t believe it till I tried it. Unfortunately, doesn’t work with SRAM though. However the best bit of advice was given to me as I was just starting out and in awe of the choice of gear and results I was seeing and I was told:
“Anyone can buy a carbon frame or the latest wheels, but you need the pistons to drive the engine. Put the work in and you’ll get the rewards” Obviously, the cycling analogy is literal but I try and apply that last part to all walks of life.
